19th & Northern Station, Valley Metro Light Rail,  Phoenix, AZ

Lace-like, intricately cut metal panels are paired with inset terrazzo “rugs” for intimate seating on the station platform.  The imagery and title pay homage to the intricate workings between pollinator species, the plants they depend on, and human expansion.

The migratory Long Nosed Bat flys in the direction of the light rail route, searching for agave and cactus blossoms. In addition to the bat, other local plants and animals struggle for sustenance in the depleted habitat of the Phoenix area; agave, desert tortoise, mesquite, the roadrunner and tarantula make their appearance in the platform art.
