biography of a branch

Fisher Pavilion, Seattle Center, Seattle, WA

Stone mosaic fabricated by Steven Miotto, NY

BIOGRAPHY of a BRANCH is 112 square feet of mosaic at the East entrance to the Fisher Pavilion. The piece presents the idea that city dwellers literally plant their culture into an urban environment. The plants, rendered in mosaic from the artists drawings, are all found in Seattle neighborhoods, used and /or planted by the original area inhabitants and waves of immigrants.  Among the plants in the mosaic are cedar & yew, fig & rosemary, pine, collard leaves, mint, lemon grass, plum and apple.
